Volunteers are integral to ensuring the residents and visitors to the North West have access to a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Without people like you donating your time and skills we would not be able to deliver an air ambulance service.

By giving your time you are enabling others to have the gift of time!

Volunteers provide much needed additional support to your North West Air Ambulance Charity by being our presence on the ground, raising our profile, increasing awareness, developing new initiatives and attending fundraising events and by providing valuable skills and experience.

There are many ways to get involved dependent upon the amount of time you have to give and skills you wish to share, including:
Support Volunteer – help our office based teams with HR, Health & Safety, Finance and Volunteer services
Fundraising Event Volunteer – Attending local events to raise awareness and funds
Volunteer Speaker – Delivering presentations to local groups and organisations
Retail Volunteer – Be the face of our charity in one of our retail shops

Current Vacancies

Warehouse Volunteer – We are currently looking for volunteers in Blackburn to help out in our warehouse. The role is varied for more information please see the role description.

Fundraising Event Volunteer – Events come in all different shapes and sizes, our volunteers might be cheering on supporters taking part in a challenge event one week, raising awareness and collecting money another and taking part in one of our exciting roadshows the next. These events can take place on any day of the week with a vast number taking place in the evening and at the weekend. Retail Volunteer – We have 9 retail stores across the North West and we are looking for enthusiastic and passionate volunteers to help make these a success. For more information please see Retail Volunteer – Role Description

Volunteer Speaker – Help us spread the word about the great work North West Air Ambulance Charity does. Becoming a volunteer speaker is very rewarding as you get to meet lots of new people that can support NWAA. This could be a short presentation for a community event, accepting a cheque on our behalf or having a chat with people at a networking event.   • Ben’s story
  • Victor Crawford, from Macclesfield, has been a keen supporter of the North West Air Ambulance since 2011. When he stopped full time work, Victor decided to follow his boyhood dream and become a fully qualified pilot. It was through flying at Barton Aerodrome where he first came across a North West Air Ambulance Charity helicopter, which sparked his initial interest in the charity and the work that it does.

    Victor delivers talks and presentations to organisations about his flying experiences and the charity several times each month. In addition to this, Victor also accepts fundraising cheques from organisations as a representative on behalf of the charity.

    Commenting on his charity work, Victor said, “When I was offered a fee for my public speaking, it didn’t feel right to accept the money for doing something that I enjoy. Therefore, it seemed only fitting that I donate my fee to the North West Air Ambulance Charity. It is a wonderful charity, which helps so many people every year and it is great to combine my passion for flying with such a good cause. At the back of my mind there is always the thought that one day I might need them.”

  • Volunteer Ben Thompson hasbeen a keen supporter of the North West Air Ambulance Charity since 2014. Ben came across the charity through his employer United Utilities. After getting involved in fundraising activities with his colleagues, Ben decided he wanted to help the charity further and donates half of his annual leave and spare time to the organisation.

    Ben delivers presentations about the service to many different organisations within the region. In addition to this, he regularly supports the charity at challenge fundraising events and even helps fuel the team in head office with tea!

    Commenting on his volunteering work, Ben said: “I really enjoy this role and I feel that it is very important to spread the charity’s message locally. The North West Air Ambulance is a wonderful charity which relies completely on the generosity of the public to keep it going 365 days of the year and I feel that my work can in turn help others.”

Just a few hours of your time can help keep our helicopter flying and help to save lives in the North West.
